  • Pablo Garrido
    Head Office

    Pablo heads up the MBAN’s Office, tracking issues of strategic importance to the early-stage investing ecosystem. He also strives to identify opportunities to influence the EU decision making processes, working closely with industry’s stakeholders to promote the excellence and expertise of MBAN’s Board Members to the European audience.

    Pablo is also responsible of the coordination and implementation of MBAN’s activities in EU funded projects. Being the first contact point of the Association, he is also looking after members’ interests and helping ensure they obtain best value from their membership. Prior to joining the organisation, he developed a successful finance career for international companies in Ireland, Spain and United Kingdom. With a solid background in banking and administration and a determined entrepreneurial character, Pablo holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Marketing Management by New Buckinghamshire University, United Kingdom, and a Master in Sport’s Management by the University of Southern Denmark.

    Amer Al Omari
    Founder & CEO – weziwezi.com

    Amer is a serial entrepreneur who has founded several successful online websites like weziwezi.com, blarabi.com and PayFellow.com.

    Amer has 10 years professional experience in mobile, internet and financial industries; working across the entire spectrum of mobile and web leading portals, entertainment services, digital content products and services and telecom and financial solutions.

    Previously Amer worked with leading VAS companies in Jordan and KSA, he held the position of Business Development Manager at Elite Informational & System Technology establishing business partnerships with mobile telecom operators, mobile handset manufacturers, digital content owners and media advertising companies across Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Prior to Elite he was a Business Development Manager at MASAR Wallet; previously he worked at cashU as Technical Team Leader.

    Amer Has a BA degree in Computer Information System from Applied Science University in Jordan in 2004.

    Radi supports weziwezi.com with business development support. In his role he is supporting the CEO in company development, business planning, marketing and sales strategy development. Additionally, Radi is Vice President Business Development at MENA Apps. He is responsible for the technical and financial due-diligence of the early stage investments for MENA Apps. Additionally. he mentors entrepreneurs on business development, marketing, sales, organization development and leadership as well as supporting entrepreneurs with access to companies and investors. Radi also manages the partnerships development with regional and international incubators, accelerators, mentor, angel networks and VCs.

    Radi has 15 years experience in the international Telecommunications industry where he held various positions in the field of Product Development, Network Architectures, Network and Business Strategy, Marketing & Business Development.

    Before joining MENA Apps, Radi worked with major telecom operators like Zain Jordan and Paltel Group. At Zain, he held the positions of Business Marketing Director and Data Strategy Director, where he supported Zain’s CEO to transform Zain from a mobile only to integrated operator. In this role he was responsible to develop and market Zain’s products and services, like connectivity, managed security and cloud computing, that serve the Business and Government sectors. He managed to position Zain as true integrated operator serving Jordan’s biggest enterprises in less than a year.

    At Palestinian Telecom Group, Radi held the position of Marketing Director for both Paltel Group as well as Paltel’s fixed line operations. Outside the Middle East, Radi has held various Product management and Business Development roles at AT&T and Lucent Technologies Europe Middle East and Africa. During his career he was involved in numerous projects where he advised and implemented next generation services transformation strategies for major operators.

    Radi has a MSc. in Applied Physics from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

    Julie Morel
    Social Media Trainee

    As a social media trainee, Julie looks after the community management of MBAN. She publishes news about early stage investment through social channels and the website.

    Julie is currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Business Administration at EDHEC Nice, France. She begins this internship after a 6-month ERASMUS program at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt, Germany. Thanks to this education, Julie had the opportunity to work for two start-ups. She got an overview of the SME’s world and realized the role of Business Angels’ investment in a company’s success. Julie is decided to pursue a Master in Entrepreneurship after her graduation.

  • Amjad Ghosheh
    Co-Founder & COO // Mada Al Arab

    With over 5 years of experience in Telecommunications and an additional 7 years in management and engineering fields,  Eng. Amjad is the Co-founder , Board Member and the COO of the 2nd largest internet service provider in Palestine . Amjad founded the company in mid-2010 along with three of his colleagues with ambition to aggregate their  experience and deliver  exceptional consumer service , and hence Mada was the success tempting  the thrown of service excellency. Amjad is responsible for the operations in Mada. He is managing the call center, technical support and quality assurance in addition to the public relations.

    Prior to his current roles, Amjad was the Risk Management Director of Paltel Group, during his assignment he established the risk management department that was responsible on revenue assurance, anti-fraud and risk assessment for Paltel Group.  Prior to moving to Paltel Group he established the Revenue Assurance department in Paltel and before that he was the commercial manager in Ramallah District.

    Before moving to Paltel Amjad has worked 5 years at the YMCA in youth development programmers. The experience he gain working with the Palestinian NGO sector enabled him to submit his MBA thesis on “Monitoring & Evaluation at the Palestinian NGOs Sector”.

    Working with Palestinian youth on various developments and vocational training projects enabled Amjad  to develop a holistic vision on youth development initiatives. Amjad served for 3 years as vice president of  “Hilal Al Quds Club” the Palestinian football league Champaign. Amjadalso volunteered in several vocational and entrepreneurship initiatives in Palestine.

    Amjad has an MBA from Birzeit University in Palestine and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology in Irbid/Jordan.

    Badr Jafar
    CEO, Crescent Enterprises

    Badr Jafar is Managing Director of the Crescent Group, which has been operating from the UAE as a family business group for over 43 years. The Group today comprises two main companies: Crescent Enterprises, the company’s conglomerate operating across eight core sectors of the global economy, of which Badr is Chief Executive Officer; and Crescent Petroleum, the region’s first independent and privately-owned petroleum company in the Middle East, of which he is President.

    Badr serves as Chairman of Gas Cities LLC and Chairman of Pearl Petroleum, a partnership between Crescent Petroleum, Dana Gas, OMV of Austria and MOL of Hungary. Outside of the energy sector, Badr has a variety of international and commercial interests, including aviation, serving as a board member of Gama Aviation (UK); shipping, serving as Chair of the Executive Board of Gulftainer (the world’s largest private container port operator); and real estate, serving as a Board Member of Enshaa PSC (UAE). He plays an active role in private equity initiatives, serving as a member of the boards of The Abraaj Group (UAE) and GrowthGate Capital (Bahrain).

    Badr founded the Pearl Initiative, a Private-Sector venture between the Gulf Region of Middle East and the United Nations Office for Partnerships to promote a corporate culture of transparency and accountability. He sits on the Global Board of Education for Employment (EFE), Global Honorary Board of the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, is a member of the Synergos Arab World Social Innovators (AWSI) Program Board of Governors and is a Founding Board Member of Endeavor UAE, an initiative encouraging entrepreneurship in the Gulf Region.

    Badr is actively involved in higher education, chairing the Alumni Advisory Council of the Cambridge University Judge Business School and serving as Board Member of their International Advisory Board. He is also a member of the Business Advisory Council of the American University of Sharjah, and a member of the Research and Innovation Advisory Council for The Centre of Excellence for Applied Research & Training (CERT) at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) in Abu Dhabi.

    Badr is a keen patron of Middle Eastern Arts; he is an appointed member of the Guggenheim Middle Eastern Circle and the Artistic Director’s Circle of The Old Vic Theatre Trust, and Founder of the Middle East Theatre Academy. In 2014, Badr was awarded the Gold Medal in the Arts by the Kennedy Centre International Committee on the Arts for his work to bridge cultures through music and theatre.

    Badr is an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organisation, serving as Ex-Officio Chair of the YPO Emirates Chapter. Badr was honoured as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and is Vice-Chair of their Global Agenda Council on Energy Security.

    Sbeih Mamoon
    Managing Director, Arab Region

    Mamoon Sbeih is the Managing Director - Arab Region at APCO Worldwide, a global communication, stakeholder engagement and business strategy firm. A consummate corporate and media professional, Sbeih brings to his role more than 20 years of experience in public relations, strategic and crisis communications, and business management.

    In his current role, Sbeih is responsible for expanding the company’s presence in new geographies across the Middle East region and driving its full range of services across the targeted markets.

    Working in close collaboration with home grown as well as multinational companies from diverse industry and service verticals, Sbeih guides clients to challenge conventional thinking through adopting communication strategies that reflect and respond to the evolving demands of the media landscape.

    His success in facilitating ground breaking work for a wide range of government and private sector clients, and leading a multicultural team of 100 employees from over 20 nationalities across four offices in the region earned APCO Worldwide the ‘Middle East Consultancy of the Year 2014’ title from The Holmes Report, one of the PR industry’s top global publications.

    Sbeih also specializes in C-Suite and senior government advisory, as well as the development and execution of media relations and public relations training courses in both English and Arabic.

    Matthias Treutwein
    Enpact

    Matthias Treutwein is co-founder of the non-for-profit organisation enpact. Before starting his own social enterprise, he worked for several years as a trainer, consultant and project manager in the fields of international development (Transparency International, The Owners Forum, InWent) as well as in cultural management (Goethe Institute, Bosch-Foundation). Matthias holds an M.A In Arabic, French and Spanish. He has a high level of cultural awareness, is very interested in fostering networks and strongly believes in horizontal and life-long learning.

    Enpact
    The non-profit organisation enpact was founded in August 2013. It is building bridges between Europe and the MENA region by offering young entrepreneurs a revolutionary mentoring programme. The goal is to foster horizontal learning and knowledge exchange between promising entrepreneurs from different regions. Through various workshops and networking events, small enterprises are equipped with the expertise needed to create sustainable jobs in disadvantaged regions and countries.

    All entrepreneurs taking part in the enpact mentoring program, benefit from our pool of mentors, which is comprised of a diverse range of expertise in numerous business fields and sectors. Via a multi-level-mentoring approach that builds on peer-to-peer learning, enpact supports start-ups to innovate and create sustainable jobs.

    Umniah

    Umniah has shown resilience in the most competitive regional markets in a record period of time and is now the fastest-growing telecommunications provider in Jordan, as well as customers’ most-trusted mobile service provider. Since the launch of its operations in June 2005, Umniah enforced a strong presence in the Jordanian telecom market due to its strong based strategy by offering high quality integrated services, including mobile, Internet and business solutions, with the best value, while keeping abreast with sector developments and customers’ various needs and expectations.

    The telecoms company, a subsidiary of Batelco Bahrain, was able to grip a substantial share of Jordan’s market and continued contributing to the development of Jordan’s telecommunications services while maintaining a steady growth in the number of mobile and internet subscribers. In 2014, Umniah’s mobile subscriber base exceeded the 3 million mark, which represents a market share of over 32%.     Candace Johnson
    Sophia Business Angels, FRANCE

    Candace Johnson is co-initiator of SES/ASTRA and SES Global, the world’s pre-eminent satellite group. She is also founding President of Europe Online Investments.

    S.A., the world’s first internet-based online service and satellite broadband network, and founder of Loral Cyberstar-Teleport Europe, Europe’s first independent private trans-border satellite communications network. Ms. Johnson is also founding President of the VATM, the Association of Private Telecom Operators in Germany a nd founding President of the Global Telecom Women’s Network (GTWN).

    Candace Johnson is also President of Johnson Paradigm Ventures (JPV) which is a principal founding shareholder with AXA, Caisse des Depots, Bayerische Landesbank, and the SPEF of Sophia Euro Lab, Europe’s first trans-border early-stage investment company based in Sophia Antipolis.     Managing Director and CEO, Dunia Finance

    Rajeev is the Managing Director and CEO of Dunia Finance. He is also concurrently the EVP and Regional CEO for CEEMEA region for Fullerton Financial Holdings (FFH), a 100% owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings, in Singapore. In his additional role as the EVP & a Founder Global Management Board member at Fullerton, Rajeev also heads the consumer banking business globally for all its Bank & Financial Services operations in Pan-Asian markets of China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Vietnam, Russia, Ukraine and the UAE.

    Rajeev has over 27 years of experience in the banking industry. Until January 2006, he was formerly the Regional Head & CEO for Citibank’s Global Consumer Bank, managing the Turkey, Middle East & Africa region (TMEA). He has extensive experience in working globally in markets in EMEA & Asia Pacific countries. He has launched several start ups & run established businesses successfully through an entrepreneurial approach. In 1998, Rajeev started a new greenfield joint venture finance company in India, between Citigroup & Suzuki (Maruti).He ran this highly successful enterprise as its Founder CEO & Managing Director, on its board, for over two & a half years. In 2000, he moved to Cairo, and was designated as the Country Head for Citibank in Egypt, where he launched the Consumer Bank, as the first in the market, which then grew to be the leading financial brand in the high potential Egyptian market. In July 2002, Rajeev transferred to Turkey as Citibank’s Cluster Country Head & CEO, for Turkey and Egypt.
